The white wine, cheese, and olives give this savory cake a very distinctive flavor that our family came to love.
Step by Step Recipe Instruction Video:
Ingredients:
- 250g of all-purpose flour
- Yeast
- 1/2 glass of white wine
- 4 large eggs
- 50g (1/2 stick) of melted butter
- 100g Swiss cheese, grated
- 150g cooked ham, diced
- 50g pitted black olives, sliced
- 50g pitted green olives, sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Steps to make it:
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and butter a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift the all-purpose flour and baking powder together. Set aside.
- In another bowl, combine the white wine, the eggs, and the melted butter and mix until well combined.
- Add the grated Swiss cheese and mix.
- Gradually add flour, stirring continuously until you have a smooth batter.
- Add in the yeast.
- Add the diced ham, sliced black and green olives into the batter. Mix well to evenly distribute the ingredients.
- Season the batter with salt and pepper to taste, keeping in mind that the ham and olives already contain some salt.
- Pour the cake batter into the buttered loaf pan, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake the Cake Salé d'été in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Once the cake is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
- After cooling slightly, gently remove the cake from the pan and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, slice the Cake d'été into thick slices and serve it as a delightful appetizer or part of a summer picnic. Also freezes very well...if you have leftovers!
