Ribs are everyone’s favorites, crispy on the outside, but moist and tender on the inside, easily falling off the bone.
Over the years, we have experimented with many different cooking methods. Using a grill or a smoker definitely adds a great flavor, but cooking them on slow heat over a period of a few hours always seems to dry the meat, making the end result not so enjoyable.
Baking them in the oven does seem to work better, but the flavor just isn't the same. We've also tried a hybrid approach, baking and then grilling, which was our preferred method until recently.
Ariana, who always loves to experiment, heard that we could cook ribs using an air fryer, so we just had to try that. We made them with Pork ribs, but beef should work just as well.
Step by Step Recipe Instruction Video:
Ingredients:
- Pork or Beef ribs
- Your favorite rib rub or seasoning
Steps to make it:
How to make them
The main difference is that you need to cut each rib in the rack before cooking them.
To make sure that they are cooked thoroughly, boil them in a pot of water for at least 30 minutes until they look nice and cooked.
Once they are cooked, take them out of the water, making sure to let the excess water drain, and place them in the air fryer (you can line the bottom of the air fryer with aluminum foil to make the cleanup easier). Pour your favorite sauce on them, toss to spread evenly, and cover all of the ribs. We used a homemade barbecue sauce for these:
Air fry them on the "ribs" setting (about 370°F or 190°C) until they are nice and crispy, about 10 minutes, making sure that you toss them regularly.

The boiling keeps the meat moist and juicy, and the short air frying will just make the outside nice and crispy, just the perfect balance of the two.
Serve with a side of Oven Roasted Baby Potatoes with Herbs or potato wedges (follow the same process with the potatoes, cut the wedges, boil, season, and then air fry) and a tossed salad...does it really get much better than this?
To be enjoyed responsibly of course, and with moderation!
