This is our go-to recipe for a special meal. Obviously, anything wrapped in bacon is to be consumed in moderation...but every once in a while, you gotta live a little!
This recipe is super easy and quick. The only trick is to get the bacon crispy enough without overcooking the scallops to a rubbery chewy mess. Enjoy crispy bacon-wrapped scallops with this easy and delicious recipe. Perfect for parties or a special dinner.
Step by Step Recipe Instruction Video:
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds (1kg) of large sea scallops
- 1 pack (500g) of thick-cut slices of bacon, each cut in half
- Skewers
Steps to make it:
If you use wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes so that they don't burn.

Wrap each scallop in bacon, and place it on the skewers so that it can hold the bacon in place. I like to use 2 skewers so that the scallops don't rotate when I turn them. You can also use toothpicks to help hold the bacon in place if needed. Repeat this process for all the scallops.
You can add salt and pepper as needed but quite frankly it doesn't need anything, the bacon adds enough flavor.
I like to grill them, but this can also be done in the oven at about 400°F (200°C).
- Place the bacon-wrapped scallops on the preheated grill, spacing them apart to ensure even cooking.
- Grill on low heat, making sure to grill the bacon side as much as possible, turning them frequently so that the bacon doesn't burn.
- Grill the scallops for about 2-3 minutes per side or until the bacon is crispy and the scallops are cooked through
Once cooked, remove the toothpicks and serve the bacon-wrapped scallops immediately as an appetizer or as a main course.
Enjoy your delicious bacon-wrapped scallops! We served them with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed asparagus, but they pair well with many vegetables.

Pairing Ideas:
Pairing ideas for bacon-wrapped scallops can enhance your dining experience by complementing the flavors and textures of this dish. Here are some pairing suggestions:
- Salad: Start your meal with a fresh salad to balance the richness of the bacon-wrapped scallops. A simple garden salad with a light vinaigrette or a citrusy arugula salad can work well.
- Sauces: Consider serving your bacon-wrapped scallops with a dipping sauce. A classic choice is a lemon garlic aioli, a spicy Sriracha mayo, or a sweet and tangy teriyaki glaze.
- Rice or Risotto: Serve the scallops over a bed of fluffy white rice or creamy risotto. The mild, starchy base complements the savory and smoky flavors of the bacon.
- Vegetables: Roasted or grilled vegetables such as asparagus, green beans, or Brussels sprouts make excellent side dishes. They add color and freshness to the plate.
- Wine: For wine enthusiasts, consider pairing bacon-wrapped scallops with a crisp and refreshing white wine like a Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. The acidity in the wine cuts through the richness of the bacon.
- Beer: A light lager or pilsner can also complement the flavors of this dish. The carbonation and mild bitterness can be a nice contrast to the salty bacon.
- Cocktails: A citrusy cocktail, like a classic mojito or a margarita, can be a great choice. The acidity and freshness of these drinks work well with seafood.
- Bread: Serve some crusty bread or garlic bread on the side to soak up any delicious sauce or juices from the scallops.
- Herbs: Garnish your dish with fresh herbs like parsley, chives, or dill. Their bright flavors can enhance the overall taste.
- Citrus: Consider adding a wedge of lemon or lime to squeeze over the scallops before eating. The acidity and zestiness can elevate the flavors.
